What is the SURV TAC 7?

I have teamed up with one of the finest knife makers around www.topsknives.com  and designed my own knife.

Let me first state a fact that I’m sure you already know.  There is no “perfect” knife out there, as in its utility and size. Either it will be too big to properly carve fine detailed whittling, or too small to effectively chop down small branches on a tree.

I wanted a knife that not only was a “survival” type knife, but would double as a “tactical” knife as well.  The SURV TAC 7 is that knife.  100% Handcrafted in the U.S.A.!!

The “Limited Edition Signature Series” SURV TAC 7 comes with magnesium fire starter, pocket sharpener and black ballistic nylon sheath.  A certificate of authenticity showing the serial number will also come with each knife.

What is micarta?

The grip/handle material of my knife is made out of micarta.  The proper name is “black linen micarta”, which is a composite laminate that is impregnated under intense pressure with a high grade industrial resin.  It is then dried under 7 tons of pressure, this is where its extreme strength and durability comes from.  Additionally, TOPs treats the grip even more to improve the traction of the grip when wet.  The final product is a good looking grip that will never crack, chip or peel, and that is easy to clean.  Wipe it down with some Windex and a rag, and you’re good to go!

What is 1095 high carbon alloy?

The blade of my knife is made from 1095 high carbon alloy 56-58. So what does that mean? It means the blade is of very high quality carbon spring steel.  On the Rockwell Scale of Hardness it is rated 56-58.  It’s very strong, has good “flexibility”, maintains a very sharp edge and is easy to
re-sharpen.  Keep in mind it is not stainless steel and will rust if it gets wet, so be sure to wipe it down with a light coat of oil after you use it.

I know folks that use regular motor oil to vegetable oil on their knives. Obviously, if you are going to be using it to cut up meat I would suggest vegetable oil.  I have also heard of people using Break Free, CLP, Tuff Glide and WD-40.  If some light rust does appear, simply take a pencil eraser or some fine steel wool and remove said rust. No worries.

The SURV TAC 7 is guaranteed to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the Original Purchaser ONLY.

The sheath is guaranteed to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of original purchase.

This warranty becomes null and void if the knife is abused. Knives are high quality tools and as such are able to withstand rugged field use and conditions. However, it is incumbent upon the owner to ensure that the knife is kept free of contaminants or corrosive substances and that the use of the knife is restricted to prudent and applicable functions. Any misuse of this knife other than to fulfill normal “knife-like” functions will result in voiding of this warranty. TOPs Knives reserves the right to make the final decision as to what is considered “fair use” or abuse.”

Many TOPS Knives are made from a well known, and well used steel known as 1095 High Carbon Alloy. As a military choice its success for hard use field knives has been recorded for over a half century. It is worthy of note that 1095 may stain and oxidize if intelligent and generally proper care are not used.

Like any good tool it needs to be taken care of, in this care a good oil should be applied on any exposed (non powder coated areas), ie. around the laser engraving and the cutting edge and serrations or saw teeth, as it applies to your knife, regular maintenance is encouraged.

It is of course incumbent upon the user of the knife to be responsible to keep the blade clean and lubricated in which case a good quality rust inhibitor/oil may be used.

Blade Coating

TOPs uses only the finest grade of hybird epoxy/poly powder coating on its blades. This coating is baked on and the integrity of the coating will last for the lifetime of the blade. Aggressive wear against very hard surface like metal will cause some scratching or marring of the surface as will some chemical agents. However, basically keeping it clean and using it for knife life fuctions, will ensure continual use.

SURV TAC 7 coating has independently been tested and has passed the:

  1. 1300 hours of salt water spray (Result: BEST)
  2. Solvent and Adhesion tests (Result: BEST)
  3. Imapct Resistance test (Result: BEST)

TOPS KNIVES ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR THROWING AND WILL VOID WARRANTY.

A PROOF OF PURCHASE IS REQUIRED WITH ANY REPAIR WORK ON ANY KNIFE.
Warranty returns should be mail directly to TOP’s.
